8th Grade Awards Ceremony
On June 14, 2016, Macy Intermediate recognized a great class of 8th graders. While our staff is excited to see them start their next adventure, we are also a little sad to watch our young knights walk out those doors.
Mrs. Cortez chose four 6th grade representatives from the STEM club to complete an experiment for the District Science Fair. Their experiment, titled "Walking Water", displayed the absorbance levels of water and color for seven different paper towel brands. Awards were presented to them on Wednesday, June 8 at Washington Elementary.
The Macy Gate students got the opportunity to enjoy two assemblies this week. The Aquarium of the Pacific and the Music Center's Ballet Folkorico de Brazil provided enriching opportunities for student's to learn about Science, Social Studies, and Performing Arts.

On March 11, 2016, Macy held its annual career day. We had over 35 speakers volunteer to speak at our event representing careers in business, law, entertainment, science, education, art, and technology. Every class had the opportunity to listen to at least four speakers. Faculty and staff were also able to mix and mingle with our presenters during school breaks. PTA, ASB and Starbucks donated to our event. Students enjoyed having this time to learn about various careers. All the speakers seems to agree that their ladders to success included passion and hard work.
2nd Quarter Achievement Rally
On March 10, 2016, Macy Intermediate celebrated our student successes in academics, attendance, and citizenship. Students who earned a 4.0, 3.5 and higher, and improved their GPA were recognized. Students with perfect attendance were also awarded. Every teacher picked a Student of the Quarter. We also had our Caught Doing Good raffles to reward students who got caught exhibiting good deeds. Schurr High School’s band and dance team came and performed which added to the festivities.

NEW DROUGHT CONSCIOUS LANDSCAPING BRINGS NEW LOOK AND FOSTERS DROUGHT AWARENESS AT MACY
In the effort to reflect more drought-conscious landscaping, and to raise awareness of the drought that is affecting California, Macy has proudly unveiled a newly landscaped area in front of our Main Office. Through a very generous grant received from the San Gabriel Valley Water District, Macy was able to remove the front lawn, and opt for plants and foliage that required less watering and maintenance. A pathway was also created at the front of this new area so that students and their families are able to more easily access and enjoy our new plants and flowers.
We welcome you to visit us throughout the summer and enjoy the plants, flowers and scenery that the front of our school now offers. Many thanks to the San Gabriel Water District, and to the Montebello Unified School District for providing our school with this drought-conscious makeover!
